How much you know these?

LET’S START off with a little pop quiz before we dig in further. Answer the following questions (true/false) based on your current knowledge and beliefs. I will share the answers at the end of this quiz. Don’t cheat!

  1. Drinking cow’s milk is necessary to build strong bones.
  2. You should avoid egg yolk because egg yolk raises your cholesterol level and causes a heart attack.
  3. Chronic stress can increase your body’s weight.
  4. There are many synthetic chemicals that are toxic to your body hidden in your daily self-care products.
  5. Exercise can help you to lose weight.
  6. You need at least 7-8 hours of sleep every day.
  7. Vegetable oils are good for your health.
  8. It’s important to eat carbohydrate-dense food as your breakfast.
  9. Your beliefs about food are closely linked to your current health status.
  10. It’s right for you to love and take care of other people first before yourself.

  1. False. Vegetables are a much better source of calcium. Due to the constant bombard of the advertisement for the “great benefits” of cow’s milk, we fall trapped in the actual facts of cow’s milk. Cow’s milk increases the risk of cancer and is very inflammatory, causing gut issues, allergies, and eczema.
  2. Egg yolk is the most nutritious part of the egg. It is a good source of minerals, vitamins, and omega -3 fats for our body. Studies showed there is NO link between eating egg yolk which can increase your cholesterol level and the risk of heart disease.
  3. Chronic stress can cause high cortisol hormones in your body. The spike of cortisol can increase your appetite and craving for high starchy food that leads to weight gain.
  4. There are so many synthetic chemicals that are hidden in our daily self-care products (shampoo, toothpaste, moisturizer, sunblock, etc.). 95% of the substances that we apply to our skin get absorbed into our bloodstream and are highly toxic to our body.
  5. True and False. Exercise can help us burn some calories. The main reason we exercise is to keep our body healthy and not on weight control.
  6. Everyone of us has a different sleeping duration. Finding your own sleeping hours is important even though generally most people need 7-8 hours of sleep.
  7. Vegetable oil is high in polyunsaturated fats that are unstable under high temperature. These oils can oxidise easily and create inflammation and increase the risk of heart attacks. On the other hand, palm oil that contains 50% polyunsaturated fat and 50% saturated fat, making palm oil the healthy oil to use under high temperature. Understand the chemistry of different types of oil can definitely help you to make the right choice for your healthy cooking.
  8. The best source of nutrients to start your day is good quality protein and fats, not carbohydrate dense food.
  9. Our experience or beliefs that pass down from our parents definitely can influence our choice of the food we eat now.
  10. You can’t take care of others if you are on your sickbed. Self-care and self-love are not selfish. You must love yourself first before you can love you, family members, and kids.
