KUCHING: University Malaysia Sarawak, Unimas, as an institution of higher learning in Sarawak plays an important role in terms of generating competent human capital for the digital economy, through innovative curriculum and trainings.
Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said there is a need to conduct research in various areas of digital economy to ensure that there is always new technologies being developed and new ways of applying ICT to solve problems in various domains.
He said this in his address during the launching of “The 10th International Conference on Information Technology in Asia 2017” (CITA 17) here recently.
“All of us cannot avoid the transformations and emerging trends of technology. Internet users show dramatic increment from day to day.
“Smart home technology may be the next to raise its popularity after smart phone. Technology shapes our future, however it has to be compatible with the nature and our culture.
“Technology should not appear as the negative effect but technology should help us to develop further and faster.”
He said technology should add the benefit to the whole of society and simplify human life.
He also said that to achieve the best results, participation of conferences like this will enable experts from various fields to come together and to discuss as well as to get the best outcome from technology transformations.
The International Conference on IT in Asia (CITA) is an inter-national flagship conference run by the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology Unimas and was joined by over 50 participants from the industry and academia as well as government and private organisations attending the conference.
The theme “Technology Trans-forming Lives” aims to bring together professionals and executives all around the world to share and exchange ideas and information pertaining to the roles of ICTs within the prevailing challenges of development faced by the region.
The conference is looking for new results, techniques and applications on any aspect of Universiti Malaysia Sabah hosts American Cornersmart technological ICT enablers, infrastructure and its trends rolling along into the future with its intense need for a digital economy lifestyle to shape homes, offices and communities. The ceremony also witnessed the exchanges of Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU) between UNIMAS and F-Secure Corporation (M) Sdn Bhd.
F-Secure Corporation (formerly known as Data Fellows) is a Finnish cyber security and privacy company based in Helsinki, Finland.
F-Secure aims to collabo-rate with research universities to enhance their local footprint and share with the academia the expertise in the Cyber security area. This MoU will provide a plat-form for both UNIMAS and F-Secure to collaborate in term research projects, staff exchange, student project and internship and collaborate development of curriculum and syllabus. ― UNIMAS
