Science communication is a field that is gaining momentum globally and skills in science communication are becoming critical for any STEM careers such as educators, scientists, engineers, regulators, policymakers, medical doctors and those who work in STEM-related companies. Covid-19 and emerging technologies are creating more demand for science communicators.

However, questions on how to become a science communicator, who can be a science communicator, what the training opportunities are and how to belong to a science communicator network remain unanswered to many.

The biggest global science communication competition, FameLab is an ideal platform and training ground. Here, participants have just three minutes to win over the judges and audience with a scientific talk that excels for its content, clarity and charisma. The three minutes are life-changing as it has elevated the careers of past participants and winners. Participants undergo masterclasses led by UK experts, gain media exposure and are connected to a wide network of young science and engineering communicators.

The British Council, MiGHT, The Petri Dish and Science Media Centre Malaysia are organising a webinar on 13 March 2021, at 3 p.m. on Microsoft Teams to expose more Malaysians to FameLab. Malaysia is the only country that has produced two FameLab International Champions throughout the eleven years of the global competition. Could the next champion be a Malaysian again?

The first Asian Champion of FameLab International 2016, Prof Dr Abhimanyu Veerakumarasivam says, “FameLab provided me with the perfect impetus to improve myself. It gave me the platform for my voice to be heard and the amazing privilege to make an impact. Join FameLab, challenge yourself, champion your ideas and share your stories.” Abhi is speaking at this webinar.

The most recent champion of FameLab Malaysia 2020, Atteleth Don Paris, is also on board to share his perspective on how FameLab changed the way he communicates science, engages with the society and how it is contributing to his career as an Environmental Science communicator.

Dr Liz Alexander, a communication expert, is excited to share her expectations as a judge and the criteria of a good presentation.

This entire session will be moderated by Dr Mahaletchumy Arujanan, an internationally renowned science communicator.
