Penguins have stocky builds and short arms. They use
their arms mostly for paddling.
Though penguins do not have the most athletic physiques
in the animal kingdom, these arctic birds possess the unique combination of swimming masterfully and getting airborne. While penguins cannot fly, they can leap to safety in order to evade sea predators.
Penguins usually dive in the ocean to find their food. Their skeletons are much heavier than the skeletons of flying birds that are of the same size. This allows them to dive in easily without difficulties.
Penguins cannot fly but they can jump over 3 meters, depending on their species. They wrap their bodies in a cloak of air bubbles that come from their feathers and swim with speed to the surface.
