KUALA LUMPUR: It’s a maiden victory for Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) when it wins the Most Entrepreneurial Public University award at the Ministry of Higher Education Entrepreneurial Awards (MEA) 2016 event.
UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Datin Paduka Dr Aini Ideris received the award which was presented by Higher Education Minister, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, in the event held at a hotel here.
UPM received an entrepreneurial development grant valued RM200,000, a trophy, plaque and a certificate.
Four public universities which made it to the finals – UPM, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Islam Antarabangsa and Universiti Sains Malaysia – received RM50,000 each.
The awards were presented in appreciation of the initiatives and efforts carried out by institutions of higher learning that resulted in their excellent performances in education and entrepreneurship development programmes.
Among the categories contested were Best Student Enterprise, Best Social Entrepreneurship Project and Best Entrepreneurship Mentor.
Meanwhile, Aini said the contest was an effort by the government to empower the entrepreneurship ecosystem of higher learning institutions to be more conducive and sustainable in line with the Higher Learning Institutions Entrepreneurship Action Plan 2016-2020.
She also said that the accomplishment proved that UPM staff and students could do more to win major contests in entrepreneurship.
“I hope that all students will get themselves involved in university activities and programmes to make them feel more committed to achieve more successes,” she said. ― UPM
